Imagine: You’re sitting in your office, working away at your new business. You’re young, ambitious and talented, and after a lot of hard work, things are finally starting to take off. You should be happy, but instead you’re frustrated. The victory is empty, because it’s not fulfilling something else that’s inside. “All is vanity.” You want a real challenge. You’ve read stories about Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Jesus Christ, and you know that you could do something like that—make a real difference in the world. You could give up everything and go make something of your life if only you could find a good, worthwhile cause. You almost wish Greenpeace or Red Cross would walk in your door—at least it would give you some sort of project to involve yourself in. Maybe you get involved with the Lion’s Club, or the Rotary, or maybe you donate money to the local orphanage… but you’re still restless and are waiting for the challenge.
