2 Tons of Books for Africa!
That’s right! 2 tons of books, teaching aids, Activated Magazines and materials for schools, teachers and university students has finally been delivered to the UK and loaded into the container ready to be shipped to Sierra Leone! Activated Mission has waited for this moment for a long time. Thanks to our supporters for making this possible. But our dream is far from being fulfilled…
“Sponsor a Book has just taken off”, says Matthias Roser, a volunteer and co-founder of the project, “and already we see part of our dream come true! Being in Germany now over 2 years preparing for our move into Sierra Leone has helped us accomplish what we could not, basing out of Sierra Leone alone. The logistics, creating new materials more appealing to the African schools, fundraising, and more is only a part of “behind the scenes” work to get a teaching aid into every school, and a book into every kids hand in Sierra Leone.
That might seem unrealistic, but we are determined to shoot for the stars.”
Though the project has yet to be fully funded, many companies, volunteers have started to move behind this new exciting idea!
Already before any funds were available, volunteers of Activated Mission spent weeks at fairs looking for companies to print and laminate our new “Africanized” posters of the “Start Early” (main teaching aid of “Sponsor a book” project) which focuses on Teaching Character, art, reading and memorization in cartoon form. From companies like Canon, Sharp, to Toshiba and Xerox, many managers and even CEO’s took interest and helped further our program at fairs across Germany.
This is how it was made possible:
AD or “Activated Deutschland” under the direct assistance of the director Rudolf Roser, sent a driver and vehicle to England with 1 Ton of books, posters, and tracts. Some of these were printed as far as Poland, others stored at Switzerland Aurora waiting for the right time and project. Today was that day. Still the materials had to make their way to England… Thanks to Stena Line, comfortable transportation was sponsored for the vehicle with materials and passengers, including room and board. If you are going to England via ship you will enjoy STENA LINE’s wonderful service and prestige.
“Packing the pallets was a few hours of tricky tetris engineering” Says Mr. Roser as four volunteers worked together to make use of every single inch of space given.
“…and that’s how it’s made possible”, Matthias says, “Even the parking was donated….”
Activated Mission needs your help to further our dream of getting a book full of positive moral into the hand of every school kid in Sierra Leone, take part in this vision by volunteering yourself, or donating to the cause….
Thanks to all the supporters volunteers and sponsors of this specific project… perhaps we’ll see you on the other side?…the African side!
