From Europe to Africa by Ship

It’s the day of our departure to Freetown; the children are in their seats eager to start the journey, as the adults run through their last mental “to do” lists. From Germany we drove to our port of departure in Antwerp, Belgium. Our team of four adults (Matt and Melissa, Davida, and Sonja—the new member of our team) and five children said our “good-byes” to Europe, and boarded the Huge cargo ship that was to be our home for the next two weeks.

We were welcomed aboard by the Captain and crew, most of whom were Italian and Filipino.

We were given four large cabins and were served three four-course meals a day during our two-week trip. We had a relaxing cruise and saw dolphins, whales and sharks along the way. What more could we ask for?

Sailing into the port of Freetown was a scenic sight: White sand beaches, surrounded by high mountains, winding “roads” setting off the contrast of rich red earth against a bright array of greens, little fishing boats floating along the calm and blue waters; it was good to be back!

We want to thank everyone who made it possible for us to get back to Sierra Leone! It is through your help and support we are able to continue giving our time, love and care to help the people in this country that we call home. God bless you!

Quote For The Day

Troubles, like a washing machine, twist us and knock us around, but in the end we come out brighter and better than before.
